Even if everyone is The Devil in Miss Jonas (Der Teufel in Miss Jonas)going to be calling the sequel to the classic '80s film Top Gun 2, its official title is Top Gun: Maverick, Access Hollywoodlearned Friday.

Tom Cruise, who played the U.S. Naval Aviator Lt. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell in the 1986 film, confirmed last week that the long-hyped sequel would be happening. In a video interview Friday he confirmed more details like the name -- which seems to suggest that this plane might really take off more than 30 years later.

"I didn't want a number," the actor told Access Hollywood's Scott Evans about the title. "You don't need a number."

Cruise said the new film will be very reminiscent of the classic with similar tone, style, score and of course, aviators.

The planes, however, will be getting an upgrade. "The need for speed...We're gonna have big, fast machines." He said aircraft carriers and jets will be flying across the screen, but he wouldn't say much more about the plot and characters. He also noted that the plan right now is to begin filming in 2018.

The fact that it's not a numbered sequel has Twitter talking.
